PETTIGREW & ASSOCIATES has worked on numerous projects at the world famous Carlsbad Caverns.
Carlsbad Caverns Topographic Survey to Replace Sewer Collection System
In 2001, PETTIGREW completed a topographic mapping project covering all of the developed area (approximately 100+ acres) of the Carlsbad Caverns National Park including detailed mapping for a complete sewer system reconstruction project to all facilities for the National Park Service. The project required the use of Federal CADD Standards for Drafting and Plan Development.
Carlsbad Caverns Repair & Rehabilitate Sewer System
PETTIGREW & ASSOCIATES provided geotechnical engineering/observation services for the construction of a new sewer line. Responsibilities included observation and documentation of geologic formations for the installation of stanchions to support the line. In addition, PETTIGREW provided surveying and materials testing support for this important project.
Carlsbad Caverns NM PRA Cave-10(1) – Replacing Parking Lot and Entrance Road
In 2010, PETTIGREW & ASSOCIATES won a bid to perform surveying and materials testing at Carlsbad Caverns. The roadway improvements include rehabilitation of surfaces on 7.5 miles of the Carlsbad Caverns entrance road beginning at the park boundary and terminating at the Visitor Center parking area. Improvements to the entrance road will include rehabilitation of the existing driving surface and roadside ditches, repairing and stabilizing damaged paved rundowns, formalizing several pullouts with asphalt and curbing, and repairing drainage crossings where deficiencies exist. Safety improvements to the entrance road will include the installation of new signing and reflective pavement markings, placement of rumble strips leading into the Visitor Center parking areas, and controlled scaling of loose rock along “The Big Hill and the Shady Rest Rock Cut”.
