  • INTRODUCTION
  • This job description defines and details the function, reporting relationships, authority, responsibilities and duties for the position of Survey Crew Chief under Surveying Department of Pettigrew & Associates.
  • This position is non-management, hourly and non-exempt.

 REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in CAD drafting, Field Inspection, laboratory and/or Field Technician.

Qualifications:

  • Must have 3 years of experience in Boundary, Topographic and Construction Survey, design Surveys, subdivision plats, ALTA/ACSM surveys, and horizontal and vertical control networks for aerial and GPS surveys.
  • Must be proficient in the use of field equipment, GPS Total Station, and Robotics. Must be familiar with AutoCAD and Land Development Desktop.
  • Must have strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and work instructions, self-directed with good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient is the use of computer (Microsoft Office Applications) and CAD.

Licensing and Certification:

  • Must possess a current, valid New Mexico drivers’ license and a driving record acceptable to Pettigrew & Associates’ insurance carrier.

Physical Demands:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully;

  • Body Positions – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time. He/she may also be required to sit for prolonged periods of time while completing other duties and responsibilities.
  • Body Movements – The employee must have a full range of body movements including the use of his/her hands to finger, handle, feel and manipulate general office equipment. The employee must be able to bend, stoop and crouch or run on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.
  • Body Senses – The employee must have a command of the senses of sight, hearing, touch and smell. Specific vision requirements include                 close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus and correctable to 20/20.  The employee must be able to distinguish between shades of color and communicate via radios, telephones and e-mail.
  • Strength – The employee must have the ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Working Conditions – This employee primarily works inside in a controlled smoke-free environment. When outside, as workflow determines needs, he/she experiences a full range of weather conditions.
  • Noise Level – The noise levels for this position will range from low to high depending upon the job site conditions.
  • The employee will regularly drive 4×4, all-terrain vehicle, and work sustained periods of time maintaining concentrated attention to detail.
  • BASIC FUNCTION
  • Responsible for completing projects by working together with the team and by performing different field surveying activities as assigned by Immediate Supervisor.
  • This position takes an active role in daily activities and processing work accurately and efficiently through the company systems as determined by management and supporting the department as necessary.
  • REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
  • The Survey Crew Chief directly reports to the Survey Manager.
  • The following position may occasionally supervise by the Crew Chief position as assigned by the Immediate Superior:
    • Survey Technician
    • Engineering Technician
  • AUTHORITY

  • RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work diligently to achieve assigned or department activities; notify the Immediate supervisor promptly if unable to complete the assigned tasks on schedule.
  • Perform all tasks in alignment with your departmental operations, adhering to established policies, procedures, methods, budgets and business professionalism.
  • May develop and implement written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best methods are established for all critical duties of this position. Actively contributes to creating and updating these procedures and ensure department manuals reflect any changes. Provide cross-training to affected staff on updated SOPs.
  • Maintaining a constructive work environment by ensuring organization and managing priorities effectively in a dynamic, multi-tasking setting, and collaborating with other P&A personnel to promote continuous improvement.
  • Maintains clean, organized and presentable work areas for clients and other visitors. Provide a safe, well-maintained work environment that promotes health and safety for all staff.
  • Promote and maintain open communications and a harmonious working relationship with all personnel, but particularly with direct reports. Follows written and oral directions completely as instructed by the Immediate supervisor or Authorized Company Officers.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings to stay informed on task updates and new instructions and address daily work challenges. Promote a positive and collaborative teamwork approach that builds morale and encourages a productive work environment.
  • Economically utilize time, materials, and equipment efficiently, ensuring quality is not compromised. Follow up on unresolved issues to ensure completion as directed by the Immediate Supervisor.
  • Analyze the cost of repairs and purchase costs and recommend strategies that benefit the company’s overall objectives.
  • Strictly follows company procedures and safety protocols to maintain a secure and compliant work environment.
  • Performs other related tasks assigned by the Immediate Supervisor.
  • Maintain professionalism when dealing with internal and external clients.

 

  • PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Collects accurate data by using various surveying tools and downloads the data into the designated survey file.
    • Produces clear and concise field notes and ensures high-quality field data for project processing.
  • Performs field calculations and manages data efficiently to support project objectives.
  • Reviews and interprets data, designs, and blueprints to plan for the of the assigned tasks.
  • Travels to various project locations to perform tasks assigned by the Immediate Supervisor.
  • Provides regular updates on project status, including progress and challenges encountered, across all aspects of the project.
  • Meets with clients to discuss issues, provide updates, or obtain additional project instructions to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Complies with the local and safety standards of the job sites while performing tasks.
  • Always secure company-assigned equipment and tools, ensuring regular cleaning and calibration to maintain accuracy.
  • Secures company-assigned vehicles by parking at designated areas, following road regulations, performing regular vehicle maintenance, reporting issues for repair, and adhering to company vehicle policies and procedures.
  • As team leader, assigned and monitored individual tasks of the team, ensuring efficient task execution.
